Founded by driven investors new to the cannabis industry, Enterprise Farms Inc. DBA Artisan Grown located in Oregon, had been unable to turn a profit a couple of years and millions of dollars into the venture. Artisan Grown sought consult from Chief Consultant Matt LaPlante to tap into the potential of their 5,000 square foot indoor facility. Over the course of two years, Matt led them in sourcing improved light fixtures, transitioning from deep water culture into soilless media, and mixing custom fertilizer applications on-site. After a short time working with Matt, Artisan Grown was able to triple production for a fraction of the original fertility budget.
Steven L., Principal for Enterprise Farms Inc., is pleased that Matt had “reduced our fertilizer expenditures by almost 90 percent” and “improved plant health by designing proper nutrition.” He described Matt as “an individual of high integrity, business acumen, knowledge of the cannabis plant, and practical insight.”
Artisan Grown is a great example of how successful investors and entrepreneurs, eager to enter the cannabis market with a solid vision and plan, may overlook how critical soil and plant science is to their bottom line. In Steven’s own words, Artisan Grown now has their cultivation methods “locked in” thanks to Matt’s guidance.
A longtime grower interested in developing his understanding of soil and plant nutrition, Dan K. has been one of Matt’s longest clients. Keen to utilize and conserve the native soil in his greenhouse operations, Matt has helped Dan to benchmark, improve, and routinely track the mineral composition of soil for many seasons of continual use. Due in equal parts to Matt’s mentorship and Dan’s aptitude and enthusiasm, Dan has become proficient at soil amending, timing targeted nutrient applications, and has reduced production costs.
In Dan’s words, “I was transformed from a grower to a farmer. I will always highly recommend Matt’s agricultural consulting services and can’t thank him enough for his advice. I have a much better idea on how to amend soil before each cycle. I’ve never had a bad soil recommendation in over a six-year period.”
Working with Dan over the past six years has been incredibly rewarding because we’ve seen him grow his knowledge base and confidence in using science-based cultivation techniques. Plus, conversations diving deep into balancing NPK and micros are way more fun now that the Jedi has become a Master.
